As predicted a copy of 'A Journey' has reached its final destination to me in birthday wrapping paper. I'm two chapters in and already Blair's reminded me of why I wanted to get into politics.
Over the next few days, all eyes - or all (two) of mine - will be fixed on the outcome of the Labour leadership contest. Of course it's now come down to one Miliband or the other, but Abbott, Balls and Burnham should all be proud of the part they've played. Same goes for Harriet Harman.
The big news this week has been the questions raised over the safety and security at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Delhi. A pedestrian footbridge collapsed before a false ceiling at the Weightlifting centre came down, and security fears were raised when motorcycle gunmen opened fire on a bus in Delhi. Security is a problem that they can only do so much about... but when a city has seven years to prepare for one of the biggest sporting events in the calender, you'd expect to cross a bridge without wondering whether to wear a harness.
Quick congratulations to Monty Panesar who today has made the 16-man Ashes squad for the series in Australia this winter.
